No, folks, don't worry about it: I am not gonna talk about Shakespeare at all! I'm here to discuss this phenomenon that is going on in movies, sitcoms, tv series, theater plays and I like to call it:''characters-with-no-name''.
Sometimes it goes completely unnoticed and I wonder whether that is the purpose behind it all.
My husband and I own the collection of Entourage DVDs (well, they are technically mine, but we always watch the DVDs together!) and just the other day I was asking him:''Have they ever said Mrs. Ari's name on the show?''.
He hadn't even noticed that throughout the 5 seasons the show has had, not once is Mrs. Ari referred to by a first name of some sort. She is either called ''baby'', by the husband or ''Mrs. Ari'' by everyone else.
This made me think of this movie I saw a couple of years ago. It's an independent movie called ''Once''. It was written and directed by John Carney. I wonder what he was thinking when he made up these amazing characters with deeply interesting personalities, but no name.
Even when one goes to www.imdb.com to search for more information about the movie, there are no names for the main characters of the movie. They are listed as ''guy'' and ''girl'' in the credits.
The movie is lovely. I remember leaving the movie theater with a sense of satisfaction after watching it back then.
It was one of those BABY KINO days when I took my daughter with me, she played with her toys, then took a nap and I watched the movie.
Apparently writing characters with no name is a trend that's translating into sitcoms too. If you are a ''Scrubs'' fan, you might have noticed that ''JAnitor'' is only referred to as ''janitor''. He has no name.
I wonder whether that is done solely to annoy viewers or to intrigue them... I guess I am gonna have to talk to a film maker to find out the real reason:-)
What's in a name, anyway?:-)

think that is done to intrigue viewers. There is an author called Gil Vicente and he used to write plays whom characters had no names, they were role models: the Priest, the Jew, the Whore, the Thief. Those plays talk about bad and good actions...they are a little bit moralizing.
Role model:A person who serves as a model in a particular behavioral or social role for another person to emulate.
In his plays the role models weren't supposed to be emulated at all, they were rather not to be so...because they were rather a way of criticising certain particular behavioral or social roles. So maybe those characters with no names are role models to be or not to be emulated...maybe they are there to criticise something.
I like your blog and I often visit it.
I hope my English isn't that bad so you can understand what I mean.
I forgot to say something: your daughter is so cute! Congrats!
Boa pergunta! Mas sabe, sou assim tão distraída com algumas coisas( filmes p. ex) que nunca sequer parei para pensar!
Vc tem razão: o melhor é perguntar para o produtor do filme.
Um grande abraco para vc e sua filha linda! ;)
